Change...
I don't know about you, but in my life change is happening everywhere. I'm changing (growing and learning I hope), the Red Cross is changing, and now even the weather is changing. Personaly, I like the winter, but I am not ready for it quite yet. This recent early snow storm reminded that I am really not in control of the changes going on around me, which in some way makes me feel alot better. I am just going to enjoy the ride.
There are however some things I (and you) can do to be prepared so that no matter what changes come we are prepared. The Red Cross teaches three simple steps: Get a kit, Get a plan, and Get informed. It occurs to me that these three simple steps can be the difference between life and death in times of change. Think of those things you need to survive and put them in a kit - Meds, water, food, heat, etc. (you can find resources on our web site for building a kit). Plan in advance for those things that are most important - Family.
The plan and the kit are truly important but I want to focus on the Get informed. This seems like good over all life advice. Getting informed is truly disaster PREVENTION. Think about it this way - if a loved one is experiencing a cardiac event, it is an emergency. If no one knows CPR and your loved one dies, then it is a disaster. The time that it takes to learn CPR could save a life and prevent an emergency from becoming a disaster!
Getting informed can look different for everyone, but as they say "knowledge is power". Take some time to learn CPR, or anything else, and you will be a little more prepared for change!
Best regards,
